What do you do when the person you most want to protect is the one risking everything to make sure you survive?

WINNER of the prestigious Golden Leaf Award in Romantic Suspense category.

BOOK OF THE YEAR Finalist in Foreword Magazine's INDIEFAB Awards

A chance meeting on the beach leads to love and self-sacrifice half a world away in this gripping tale of espionage and military suspense. A special ops soldier is pushed to new limits when he discovers the person he most wants to protect is the one risking everything to make sure he survives.

It started as a chance encounter on the beach, and ended 24 hours later when they parted to go their separate ways.

Or so they thought.

Actually it was just the beginning.

WHEN LAUREN CANTRELL said goodbye to the guy she had just met on the beach, she had no way of knowing their paths would ever cross again. But fate had another unexpected meeting in store for them—this time in a place where danger was part of the culture and the stakes were life and death.

THE LAST PERSON in the world Rad expected to see at a special ops briefing in Afghanistan is the girl he met at the beach two weeks ago—the one he can’t stop thinking about.

From the sundrenched beaches of Ocean City, Md., to the snowcapped mountains of Afghanistan, this thrilling tale of espionage and intrigue takes readers on a spellbinding journey into the secret lives of our nation’s quiet heroes—and answers the question

What do you do when the person you most want to protect is the one risking everything to make sure you survive?

MEANT TO BE recounts the dedication of our military, the honor and sacrifice of our soldiers, and a relationship that is tested and sustained by the powerful forces of love, courage and resolve.

First, just so you have an idea how much I LOVED the writing in this book, let me say that I bought the NEXT book by this author, EVEN though the price is outside my buying range.
This is a fast moving, action packed military romance which was very well written. There weren't any of the normal cliches that you see in some of the military romances. The book read very realistically, perhaps too realistically, on the military aspects of the book.
SPOILER ALERT: READ NO FURTHER UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK.
The realistic handling of despicable people who do not respect the sacrifices of our heroic men and women in the services was refreshing. The book did have a romantic ending, but there were loose ends that the Reader will want tied up. I always like to see evil people receiving justice for their bad acts.
All in all, the Hero and Heroine were very interesting, sympathetic people. The plot was exciting and not predictable. The author did not take liberties with the normal military response to the situations created. The villain was allowed to remain blissfully unaware of her perfidy, and some bad things happened in the book.
In other words, this book is AWESOME!!! Hopefully the author will write many, many more books.

Meant To Be A Novel of Honor and Duty For Love of Country Book 1 edition by Jessica James Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I took a chance on the author and her book and loved both of them. I found I could not put the book down and when I did I had to hurry back to it as quickly as possible. My mind kept coming back to this story even after I completed the book. I fell in love with these 'warrior' characters; their sacrifices and love of our country. As many of us do, we take our military and other personnel who help protect us and our country for granted. I was so caught up in their story and cheering and praying for them.
Wow. What a great read. This is the first book I have read by Jessica James, and it won't be the last. Suspense, military, thriller, gut wrenching. This is told in both points of view so clearly you are right there with them. I am so thrilled I had the opportunity to review. I volunteered and would do so again in a second. Thank you Jessica James!
What an awesome book this is, I love military story's with some romance thrown in, What a love story this is for 2 people who only had 24 hours together, neither knowing what the other did. Lauren in the CIA and Rad in Special Ops neither knowing would soon be face to face again, in Afghan and then Pakistan The story had me from the beginning and as i got further in I had to read it all in one setting. You won't forget this one Please read it James outdid herself on this one
Great story, subject matter was well researched and once I started reading it, I never wanted to put it down. It was a little different from her previous books. This was still military but the venue has changed from The Civil War to more modern confrontations in Afghanistan. As always, Mrs. James has done her research on the location, local customs as well as proper military action, just to name a few. Jessica James never disappoints!
This is a different but very well laid out storyline with the main characters each in a classified assignment....the man a soldier, probably Delta, and the other, female, in the CIA through they know not what the other does. There is obvious attraction between the two but it has to wait until what becomes their joint mission is accomplished. There is fast paced action, unprincipled media intrusion, self sacrifice as well as politics and bureaucracy.
This was a really good story, a clean romantic suspense. There was swearing on occasion but since it was character appropriate, I just read past it but if swearing bothers you then don't read this. There were a lot of good characters. I would have liked some of the team to be described in more detail rather than being so one dimensional. I was disappointed at the very end, with how everything was resolved. I really wanted more details. It felt rushed or hurried over. That is what cost it one star. I think it was five stars before that. The suspense/action/drama part of the book was good. Rather than recounting memories of, say, past missions, it would have been really nice to have it been something in the present tense. There seemed to be several trips down memory lane that could have been written differently to be something contemporaneous to the events of the main story. Be all that as it may, it was still a great read and I would like to read more from this new-to-me author.
I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I've never known this author prior to this audiobook listen and review and honestly probably wouldn't have purchased this audiobook if the narrator wasn't one of my favorites. I have found that if I find a narrator that I love, I will take a chance on an unknown to me author. Since I knew the narrator and already love her work, I was happy to listen and review this audiobook and was happy to find a great CLEAN Military Romance. Now that I've found Jessica James and her excellent writing skills, I will be keeping my eye out for more of her work and hope to find her audiobooks are narrated by a great narrator. I've listened and reviewed too many not so great authors and when the narrators are sub-par, it just gets worse so that I'm not as eager to listen and review just anything any longer. Sometimes a great narrator can even make an okay writing job sound great and still be enjoyable, but sometimes nothing can make it better. This audiobook was both great writing and great narration and very enjoyable. I highly recommend this audiobook.
